Hong Kong football chief set to embark on head coach hunt, Man City tipped to visit

Hong Kong’s football chief is ready to start his global hunt for a head coach and said he would be “watching very closely” when interim boss Roberto Losada has his latest audition this month.

Losada will be in charge for Hong Kong’s Lunar New Year Cup game against FC Seoul on February 21, after it was confirmed on Monday that the one-off clash would replace the unloved legends matches staged for the two most recent editions of the 118-year-old fixture.

Eric Fok Kai-shan, chairman of the Football Association of Hong Kong, China (HKFA), said he was aiming to hire “the most suitable coach for Hong Kong … as soon as possible”.

“The recruitment process is established, it will start this month and we’ll look for interest from around the world,” Fok said. “I’m sure [Losada] wants to do well, if he’s interested he has to apply.

“Hopefully, we’ll find the best coach and get good results.”

Losada pledged to choose a number of young players for the Hong Kong Stadium meeting with Korean top-flight side Seoul, and said he had to “start thinking about the next two-to-three years” for the city team.
