Joel Mvuka speaks out on Celtic transfer after late medical scare sees Lorient rules shift

The Norwegian winger has sealed his move and says he's raring to go at Celtic Park

Joel Mvuka sealed a move to Celtic on loan after a medical scare on deadline day – and says he is delighted to "finally" get the deal done.

The Lorient winger emerged over the weekend as one of two forward line targets alongside Junior Adamu. He's the right-winger Martin O'Neill has been hunting and joins the club with a view to breaking into the Norway squad at the World Cup this summer.

His move is had been set to be a £3million permanent switch. However, the deal was plunged into doubt amid issues that were flagged in the wide man's medical.

Celtic would return to the negotiation table to iron out a loan switch with an option to buy in the summer. Mvuka has struggled to settle in back at parent club Lorient after two impressive loan spells out at Bodo/Glimt.

And he's now confident he can make an instant impact in Glasgow's East End. He said after sealing the move: “It feels really good to finally be here. The thing that sits in my mind from playing at Celtic Park was before the game when the fans were singing You’ll Never Walk Alone, and I thought ‘Wow!'

“I was a team-mate of Sebastian Tounekti’s at Bodo/Glimt and I know him very well so I can’t wait to finally see him again. I’m a fast winger, I can play left or right, and I’m good with the ball, and I can’t wait to get started.”

And boss O'Neill said: "“Joel is a talented player who has a very good level of experience achieved at some really good clubs.

"He will give the squad another option, he is very quick, able to play on both wings and I am sure he will make a very positive contribution to the club.

"I know he is very excited about joining Celtic and we are hoping he can make a great impact for us.”
