The Barcelona manager was pleased with the overall performance, particularly after the team's less convincing showing at the three-way tournament in Udine.

With the La Liga opener against Elche now approaching, however, Flick made it clear that his squad is still a work in progress.

The German coach also opened the door to more Barcelona transfers, admitting that he would like to see additional players arrive before the window shuts.

Flick explained that the coming days, including the team's upcoming match and training sessions, will help influence Barcelona's plans.

"We'll analyse this match and also the training sessions. And we've got a match this week, so we'll see."

Still, Flick placed greater emphasis on what he has seen from his players on the training pitch, making it clear that Barcelona's priority is improving the team's level ahead of the new season.

"The most important thing is how we train – the quality and the intensity – and that's very good. I can see the standard of the team and that's what matters most."

Focused on Elche as new season approaches

Flick's team selection and substitutions were influenced by the physical condition of several players, including those who had only recently returned to training.

Asked about his decisions in midfield and Karim Adeyemi's strong display, Flick explained the wider challenge facing his coaching staff.

"Some players arrived five days ago and we have to prepare for the match against Elche: we have to think about who can start, who can play the full ninety minutes, and we can only make five substitutions.

"All of this influences how we want to manage this match."

Flick was generally encouraged by the Basel performance but also identified areas where Barcelona must improve before competitive football begins.

Assessing the friendly, the German said: "It was a good test for us; Basel played well. It wasn't easy playing against them.

"Perhaps in the first half we didn't play as quickly as we'd have liked, either in terms of positioning or off the ball.

"That's what we need to improve on. We've got potential, and I'm pleased with the test," he concluded.
