'The Field Is Ass,' Bills' New Highmark Stadium Grass Ripped by NFL Player Ahead of 2026 Season

The Buffalo Bills debuted New Highmark Stadium this weekend against the Carolina Panthers, and the field conditions apparently still need improving.

According to The Athletic's Tim Graham, at least one player wasn't a fan.

"The field is ass right now," the anonymous player said. "But it's early."

The feedback from the player is perhaps dissapointing considering the new stadium cost $2.2 billion, but there were bound to be some hiccups in the process, and the field conditions were among the early setbacks.

It also speaks to the unpredictability of grass rather than turf.

"The grass looked good," Bills linebacker Dorian Williams said, per Graham. "It was cool. A couple spots kind of chunked up a little bit, but it's better than playing on (artificial) turf.

"The kinks will keep getting worked out. You can see some of the grass kind of mound up and guys knocking it back down, but I've had no traction problems so far."

The grass isn't the only issue that has been pointed out in recent weeks. After the team let fans into the stadium for the first time earlier this month, many were quick to point out that some seats had obstructed views.

The organization was quick to respond to those complaints, though.

"Saturday's practice was a great opportunity to test the new stadium. We are currently addressing internal and external feedback regarding the facility's operation following the first event," the team said in a statement. "We'll utilize the next six weeks to refine any details as we prepare for the home opener on Thursday, Sept. 17."

The Bills also noted that many of the seats with obstructed views will not be sold for football games and will instead be used for events like concerts.

The preseason is a great way for teams to work out their kinks and get ready for the season ahead. This year, the preseason is allowing the Bills to figure out what is and isn't going well in their new stadium.
