Alex Eala shares what her vision is for the future of women’s tennis, ‘I hope I do the same’

Alexandra Eala, despite her relative infancy on the WTA Tour, is already being heralded as a saviour for the sport.

After all, the 21-year-old has very quickly amassed one of the sport's biggest and most passionate followings in just two full years around the top of the women's game. What's impressive is that she is only really just getting started.

It's therefore alarming that recent news suggested that the WTA were in serious trouble of running out of money soon, at their current rate of losses.

For many, this was unfathomable, as on the surface women's tennis appears to be enjoying a period of prosperity when it comes to strength in depth and the sheer number of personalities present.

This therefore informed the thinking of one reporter, who wanted to know what Alexandra Eala's vision for the future of the WTA Tour might be.

Speaking with ABS-CBN News, following her arrival in Singapore for her final WTA event before heading to the Asian Games, the Filipina superstar was quizzed on plenty of topics, from her phenomenal fans to dealing with the pressure their support brings.

However, the interviewer then settled on the future of the women's game, which does seem to be stronger than ever.

Asked to share her vision for what's to come on the WTA Tour, Eala answered intelligently: "You know, I'm so grateful to everyone who has paved the way before. I think that every single woman who was playing tennis has contributed to its history and to the progression of the sport, you know, just by doing what they love and working hard.

"So I hope I do the same. You know, I hope to, in my own little way, whatever it is, leave tennis better than I found it."

This comes not long after Eala named her female tennis GOAT.

Who will Alex Eala face first at the Singapore Open?

As referenced earlier, the Singapore Open represents Eala's final tour-level event before she heads to Japan to represent the Philippines in the Asian Games.

That is, despite the WTA reportedly threatening Eala with a sanction for planning to miss the WTA 1000 event in China for national pride.

She seems more than happy to shoulder this punishment though, having yet to discuss it openly.

Instead, all eyes are on this newest event, and there's cause for great optimism within her camp.

After all, with Eala's Singapore Open draw having been revealed, her path to the title seems far easier than was once expected.

With late withdrawals from Jessica Pegula and Diana Shnaider, and having received a first-round bye, she will face either Sofia Costoulas or Tatiana Prozorova in her opening-round match.

The only true hurdles should likely be Amanda Anisimova in the semi-finals, or Mirra Andreeva in the final.
