Team India physio Kamlesh Jain submits resignation

Team India physio Kamlesh Jain has submitted his resignation. Although he is currently in New Delhi with the Indian team for the three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan, beginning September 13, Jain is believed to have submitted his papers to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI is yet to accept his resignation.

Sources with the Indian team and the BCCI said Jain, who joined the Indian team in June 2022, is currently serving his three-month notice period and is awaiting to be relieved by the board. Given the three-month notice period, the series in New Zealand, which ends in early December, could be his last assignment unless the BCCI relieves him earlier.

The Chennai-based Jain came in place of Nitin Patel, who had then moved to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Patel, of course, has since left the CoE and joined Mumbai Indians. Jain is believed to have sought a move away from the Indian team role because of the extensive travel involved. There was no immediate comment from the BCCI.

Jain was recruited by the BCCI when he was with Kolkata Knight Riders, during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India coach. “He has been with the Indian team for four and a half years. Although he has enjoyed his association with the Indian team, he wants to avoid travel because of a young family,” a source said.

Jain’s exit follows a spate of departures from the Indian team in recent times. T Dilip, the long-standing fielding coach, left after the recent tour of the UK. At the same time, Ryan ten Doeschate, who had been an assistant coach, also moved on. He has since joined Kolkata Knight Riders.
