Zverev reaches US Open semi-finals to face Khachanov

Tennis player Alexander Zverev in New York, United States, reached the US Open semi-finals after defeating Netherlands representative Botic van de Zandschulp 6:2, 7:5, 6:1. In the battle for a place in the final, he will play Karen Khachanov, Sky Sports News reports.

Third semi-final in New York

Zverev, who was a US Open finalist in 2020, reached the semi-finals of the tournament in New York for the third time. This will be his 13th Grand Slam semi-final. In his first two matches at this year's US Open, the German played five-set encounters, but won the next three matches in three sets.

According to the outlet, Zverev became the only tennis player to reach the semi-finals of each of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year. On his way to this stage, he spent 16 hours and 40 minutes on court — the highest figure among men to reach the US Open semi-finals since 1991.

At the start of the match against van de Zandschulp, Zverev made five double faults, but broke serve in the fifth game and took the first set. In the second set, the Dutchman came close to levelling the score, but Zverev won three games in a row at the end. In the third set, he broke his opponent's serve early and closed out the match.

Khachanov advances after Bloxs retires

Karen Khachanov reached the semi-finals after Belgian Alexander Bloxs retired from their quarter-final match with Khachanov leading 6:2, 7:5, 3:2. Bloxs entered the match with a rib injury and experienced additional physical problems during the game: he played with a brace on his right ankle, a bandage on his thigh and sought assistance from medical staff.

Khachanov reached the US Open semi-finals for the first time since 2022 and will play at this stage of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since the 2023 Australian Open.
