Wake Forest Women’s Tennis Set to Celebrate Senior & Graduates Day

1
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the final time this season, Wake Forest (10-10, 2-6 ACC) will host a pair of home matches over the weekend. First, No. 42 Notre Dame (14-7, 4-6 ACC) comes to town on Friday afternoon. The Deacs will be looking for revenge after falling to the Irish in a pair of tightly contested matches last season, including a loss in the third round of the ACC Championships.

On April 5, Easter Sunday will double as Senior & Graduates Day as the Deacs welcome Louisville (9-9, 1-9 ACC). Wake Forest has dominated Louisville recently; the Deacs are undefeated (11-0) against the Cardinals since they joined the ACC in 2014. Nevena Carton, the lone senior for the Old Gold & Black, will be recognized.

Wake Forest remains in the ITA's top 75, coming in at No. 68 this week. The Demon Deacons are one of 12 ACC teams ranked. This is an important weekend of conference play for the Deacs. At 2-6 in the league, they currently sit in 12th (out of 17) in the ACC. Four matches remain, and with a positive record in them, the Deacs have a chance to break into the top half of the standings entering the 2026 ACC Championships.

Senior & Graduates Day

Nevena Carton will be honored on Sunday ahead of the Louisville match. She has accumulated more than 100 wins in her time as a Demon Deacon and enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak in both singles and doubles. During that win streak, she has beaten two ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs with partner Kady Tannenbaum. The Deacs' No. 1 is a combined 18-13 this season.

Super Sankavi

Junior Sankavi Gownder is 13-1 in singles matches this season. At .928, her win percentage is currently the highest in program history. Gownder won both of her matches last weekend in straight sets. Fellow Texan, Evie Oxford, is right behind her at 14-2, good for a .875 win percentage this year.

Home Sweet Home

Wake Forest has a chance to win double-digit matches at home for the first time since 2023. The Deacs enter the weekend 9-4 in Winston-Salem this season.
