Japan Open 2025: Alexandra Eala crashes out of Osaka in first round

Alexandra Eala was eliminated from the women’s Japan Open tennis after a first-round straight sets defeat to Tereza Valentova on Tuesday (14 October) in Osaka.

Eala was unable to put up much of a fight against the 18-year-old qualifier from Czechia, losing 6-1, 6-2 in their first career meeting to date.

The Filipino world No. 54 made no excuses for the early exit on this evening, admitting she was flat.

“It was a tough loss for me but at the same time you have those kind of matches,” Eala told Olympics.com.

“I think she played really well and today wasn't my day in terms of finding solutions. So, yeah.”

Eala had not won at her last three tournaments, and unfortunately for the 20-year-old, the trend continued.

In both sets, she had a mountain to climb, with Valentova breaking her serve six times from 10 opportunities during the match.

She was down 4-0 in the first and 3-0 in the second, deficits that proved to be too much for her to overcome, unhelped by four double faults and able to win only 28 per cent of second serve points in the lopsided 87-minute contest.

Eala said she is next pencilled in for the 20-26 October Guangzhou Open, followed by the Hong Kong Tennis Open a week later.
