Out-of-work Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he wishes he had the chance to play at Celtic Park – having emerged as a candidate to take over at Rangers.

The US owners at Ibrox are facing a big decision over Russell Martin's successor with Steven Gerrard out of the running.

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has become the frontrunner having impressed Andrew Cavenagh and Paarag Marathe of 49ers Enterprises during talks in London.

But Record Sport understands the board are split on the German boss with Shanghai Port boss Kevin Muscat also in the frame for the vacant role.

Solskjaer's former Manchester United teammate Paul Scholes has claimed the Norwegian held secret talks with Rangers over becoming their next boss.

The Champions League winner has been out of work since leaving Besiktas last month after seven months in the hotseat.

After his departure from the Turkish giants resumed his previous role as a match analyst for UEFA.

The 52-year-old has previously managed United, Cardiff City and had two spells at Molde - and back in 2015 he took the Norwegian outfit to Glasgow's east end.

Ahead of the Europa League clash at Celtic Park, he conceded: "It is a fantastic place to play football and I am sure all the boys are looking forward to it.

"I have only been here as a spectator before. I never had the chance to walk out to the pitch so in one way I am very envious of the players who will feel the atmosphere tomorrow night.

"The atmosphere here could probably match the top clubs in the world like Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid."

Molde would see off Ronny Deila's Hoops on their own turf with a 2-1 win on that night - could he be masterminding a Rangers result on the green side of Glasgow soon?
