Nigeria names squad for 2028 Olympic qualifying against Comoros

Nigeria's women's national football team has called up 28 players for the second round of 2028 Olympic qualification matches against the Comoros Islands. Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen included captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Michelle Alozie and Oluwatosin Demehin, as well as midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Jennifer Echegini, Premium Times Nigeria reports.

Matches will be held in Nigeria

The first match of the tie is scheduled for October 9, with the Comoros Islands serving as the home side. Nigeria will host the return match on October 13. Both games will take place at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, as the Comoros Islands do not have a venue approved by the Confederation of African Football for international matches.

The players are expected to report to the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on October 3. Victory over the two matches will send Nigeria into the third qualifying round. The entire qualification campaign consists of five stages and is set to conclude in December next year.

The squad includes players from clubs in Europe and the United States

The team also includes defenders Ashleigh Plumptre and Shukurat Oladipo, midfielder Toni Payne, and forwards Asisat Oshoala, Joy Omewa and Uchenna Kanu. Among the young players called up are Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwọcha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei.

In addition to Nnadozie, the list of goalkeepers includes Comfort Erhabor and Uzoma. The squad also features players from Nigerian clubs Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens and FC Robo Queens, as well as representatives of teams from England, Italy, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Turkey, Sweden, Belarus and Mexico.
