OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton Women's Tennis team rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Omaha, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.

The Bluejays improved to 8-2 on the season, picking up their seventh win in a row. Omaha, meanwhile, fell to 6-6 overall with the loss.

"This was a strong effort from our Jays to come back after dropping the doubles point," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Omaha is a well-coached team and played well enough to win today. Our team had to handle some setbacks and did so very well and that made the difference today."

Omaha opened the match strong, clinching the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Creighton took an early advantage, as freshmen Mithila Dixit and Teresa Tran picked up a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 doubles position. Omaha's Nina Wiese and Katelynn Kock answered with a 6-1 win of their own at the No. 1 doubles spot, before Khayli Buckels and Shannon Summer claimed a 6-4 victory on the No. 3 doubles court to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead.

Kock then gave Omaha a 2-0 edge in the match earning a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets win over Tran at the No. 3 singles position.

Creighton would rally from there, claiming straight set wins on the No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles courts to clinch the overall dual.

Sophomore Alem Cote got the Bluejays on the board, capturing a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 6 single spot, before classmate Sophie Schwartz claimed a 6-2, 7-5 straight sets win on the top singles court to level the contest at 2-2.

Senior Annika Elvestrom followed with a 7-5, 6-2 straight sets win on the No. 4 singles to give the Jays a 3-2 lead. Moments later, sophomore Olivia Minikel clinched the overall dual with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 straight sets victory over Corinne Barber on the No. 6 singles court to push the Bluejay lead to 4-2.

With the match already in hand, Wiese picked up a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 come-from-behind victory on the No. 2 singles court to make the final score 4-3.

Creighton will hit the road for a pair of matches in North Dakota next week, beginning with a 4:30 p.m. match against the Fighting Hawks on Friday, Feb. 27.
