Pickford wins Coca-Cola Save of the Season award

Jordan Pickford has won the 2025/26 Coca-Cola Save of the Season award for his stunning late stop in Everton's win over Newcastle United.

The Toffees were leading 3-2 deep into second-half stoppage time at St James' Park when Pickford made a vital, match-winning contribution, showing incredible reactions to palm Sandro Tonali's ferocious volley onto the crossbar and to safety.

Pickford earned February's Coca-Cola Save of the Month award for the stop. It was the second of two Save of the Month awards for Pickford in the 2025/26 season, and his fourth award in total, which is a Premier League record.

"It was worthy of a goal," said Everton manager David Moyes. "Tonali couldn't have hit that any better or any sweeter if he tried again. It was technically brilliant, his volley, but I have to say that the save was out of this world."

Alan Shearer, the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer with 260 goals, said it was "world class".

"It is a brilliant strike from Sandro Tonali, but an unbelievable save," Shearer said. "The reaction to get that onto the bar was remarkable."

Meanwhile, Pickford's Everton team-mate Jarrad Branthwaite described it as "the best save I have ever seen".

It was one of 10 saves, nine of which won the Premier League Save of the Month award, plus Tottenham Hotspur's Antonin Kinsky's finger-tip stop against Leeds United in May, that were shortlisted for the Coca-Cola Save of the Season award.

Pickford won after receiving the most combined votes from the public and a panel of football experts.

The England international was the only goalkeeper to win two or more Save of the Month awards. His save beat other standout stops from James Trafford, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Martin Dubravka, David Raya, Alphonse Areola, Aaron Ramsdale, Karl Darlow and Kinsky.

Pickford has now won Save of the Season twice, following on from his success in 2021/22 - the inaugural year of the award.
