Denmark's Lind makes history as Odo beats Hashimoto at WTT Contender Lagos

Denmark’s Anders Lind became the first player to win consecutive men’s singles titles at the WTT Contender Lagos on Sunday, while Japan’s Satsuki Odo ended compatriot Honoka Hashimoto’s reign as women’s champion in a thrilling double-header at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall.

Lind, 27, defeated the Republic of Korea’s Oh Junsung 4-1 in the men’s final, delivering a commanding performance that reaffirmed his dominance on African soil.

The Dane, now a three-time Lagos campaigner, controlled the pace from the opening round and never allowed his opponent to gain a foothold.

He sealed victory with the confidence of a player who has made the Teslim Balogun Stadium his arena.

In the women’s final, top seed Satsuki Odo avenged last year’s result by defeating defending champion Honoka Hashimoto, also by a 4-1 margin.

Hashimoto, known for her defensive resilience, struggled to contain Odo’s aggressive attacking play. After a fiercely contested opening four games, Odo pulled ahead to 3-1 and never looked back, surging to victory in the fifth.

Odo’s triumph marked a changing of the guard, as Hashimoto, the 2025 champion, was dethroned despite her best efforts.

The twin victories highlighted a tournament that continues to gain prestige, with Lagos solidifying its reputation as a proving ground for international table tennis talent.
