'Unable to find a solution' - Ex-Town loan star departs Swedish side

Former Ipswich Town loanee Bersant Celina has left Swedish side AIK after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old attacker has been at the Stockholm based outfit since 2023, initially joining on loan from French club Dijon.

Celina moved to the Strawberry Arena on a permanent deal in January 2024, where he has since bagged 16 goals in 93 games.

"Since February, we have had constructive discussions with Bersant about a contract extension," said AIK Football's recruitment manager, Miika Takkula.

"Although both parties had a strong will to reach an agreement, in the current circumstances, we were unable to find a solution."

On departing the Swedish club, Celina said: "Dear AIK. The last three years have been the best years of my life. It has been an honour to represent the club as a player.

"As they say – all good things have an end. But the best memories last forever. Thank you from the derby king Bersant."

It has been reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that his next destination will be Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, agreeing a three-year deal.

The Kosavan international had two separate loan spells at Portman Road, making 83 appearances for the Blues and scoring 14 goals.
