Manchester United were booed off the pitch after throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at home to Brighton in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday and that has ramped up the pressure on Michael Carrick who is the new favourite to be the first Premier League manager to leave his post.

Carrick was given the United job on a permanent basis in May after steadying the ship as interim manager and guiding them to a third-place finish which secured their Champions League return.
