Zimbabwe recalls Cremer and Taylor for Australia ODI series

According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, Zimbabwe’s cricket team has recalled experienced players Graeme Cremer and Brendan Taylor for a home three-match ODI series against Australia in Harare. Sikandar Raza was appointed team captain, as captain Richard Ngarava will miss the matches due to a lower-back injury.

Return of experienced players

The 40-year-old Taylor has returned to the ODI squad for the first time in a year. He will also help perform wicketkeeping duties, as Clive Madande is injured.

Cremer, who will turn 40 on Saturday, is expected to strengthen the team’s bowling line-up. The leg-spinner last played an ODI for Zimbabwe eight years ago, but was included in the Twenty20 squad earlier this month for a tri-series with Namibia and South Africa in Windhoek.

Losses before the series

Ngarava is one of three players from the squad that beat Bangladesh 2-1 in a home ODI series in July who will miss the matches against Australia. Tanaka Chivanga will also not play as he recovers from an Achilles tendon injury.

All three Zimbabwe-Australia series matches will be held at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
