Ireland international Alli joins Charlton Athletic

Republic of Ireland international winger Millenic Alli has joined Championship outfit Charlton Athletic, signing for the London side on a four-year deal from Luton Town.

The 26-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Portsmouth, makes the move for a reported fee of £1.5million.

Born in Dublin, Alli began his youth career at Esker Celtic, before moving on to St Francis.

In a period before joining a League of Ireland was an obvious next step for a youngster, he took the unusual route of joining Bury FC as a 14-year-old.

Alli then cut his teeth in English non-league football before making his breakthrough with Exeter City before making the move to Luton Town at the end of the January 2025.

He was called into the Ireland squad for the friendly against North Macedonia, and while he didn't feature in that game, he made his senior debut for the Boys in Green in May, coming on as a substitute and registering an assist in a 5-0 friendly victory against Grenada.

Speaking about his move to the Addicks, he said: "I'm happy to be here and can’t wait to get started, have a good time and show what I can do."

"The club’s goals are the exact same as mine, so we’re really trying to push this season and do the best we can. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at The Valley and get them cheering and on their feet.

"You can expect pace, power, directness and goals - skills too!"

Manager Nathan Jones added: "We're delighted to get Milli over the line. We want to evolve and to get better year in and year out - we’ve identified certain elements that we’ve needed, in terms of that player that can be one-v-one.

"He's shown he can be a real potent threat at Championship level. We felt he was going to be a really good addition and we’ve worked hard to get that done.

"He provides options and competition for the players we’ve got and we think in that forward area we’ve got different one-v-one threats."
