Returning Real Madrid forward hands in a surprise transfer request - report

Before the summer break, there was much excitement at Real Madrid surrounding the return of Endrick, after a successful loan spell at Lyon.

Although the striker endured a difficult World Cup campaign, it was believed that he may thrive under new coach Jose Mourinho at Santiago Bernabeu.

However, with just a few weeks remaining before the start of the new season, Endrick has yet to show any glimpses of his potential.

And with Real Madrid signing one player after another, it appears the player finally made an important decision of leaving the club.

According to journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Endrick has informed Real Madrid of his desire to leave the club this summer.

This comes just days after Los Blancos sanctioned the sale of youth player Gonzalo Garcia to Fulham, where he will reunite with former manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

Garcia's departure was expected to aid Endrick and his chances of gaining more regular minutes in the first-team.

But Real Madrid did not hesitate signing Carlos Espi as a direct replacement and if reports are anything to go by, it appears Mourinho prefers the more physically adept striker in Espi.

Should Endrick push for an exit, there will be no shortage of interest in his signature.

Roma have been the most persistent admirers, having tracked the Brazilian for over a month, with coach Gian Piero Gasperini a firm believer in his qualities both centrally and out wide.

Interestingly, Real Madrid had previously ruled out Endrick's departure amid that Serie A interest, with Mourinho said to be happy with his effort in pre-season. This latest development, however, suggests the player himself may be the one forcing the issue.

With his path to regular football looking increasingly blocked, a temporary move away could prove the smartest option for Endrick to reignite his career, and Roma appear well placed to offer him exactly that.
