How Alex Eala performed against Amanda Anisimova the last time they played with two now on collision course in Singapore

Alex Eala will be looking to cash in on a golden opportunity at the Singapore Open next week.

Following her third-round exit at the US Open, Eala will be back in action at the WTA 500 event, where there have been a number of withdrawals.

The most notable no-show is world number three Jessica Pegula, who was set to enter as the top seed in Singapore but pulled out of the tournament following a deep run at the US Open.

Pegula's withdrawal means the draw has been blown wide open, and Eala's chances of winning a second tour-level title have just increased.

But it won't be a smooth ride to the final for Eala, who is on a collision course with two-time Grand Slam finalist Amanda Anisimova.

Eala received a bye in the first round of the Singapore Open, and will take on either Sofia Costoulas or Tatiana Prozorova in round two.

She is projected to face eighth seed Donna Vekic in the quarterfinals, and should she get to the semifinals, Eala will play Anisimova for the second time in her career.

Eala's first meeting with Anisimova came at the 2026 Cincinnati Open during the North American hard court swing.

The Filipina came into the bout high on confidence, having won the Washington Open by beating Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka and Pegula.

Eala took the first set against Anisimova, and looked to be closing in on the fourth round in Cincinnati.

But the American fought back to force a decider, which she took comfortably to triumph 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Anisimova then went on to beat Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova before being knocked out by Pegula in the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals.

Amanda Anisimova's disappointing season so far in 2026

After recording by far the best year of her career in 2025, Anisimova's 2026 campaign has been a bit underwhelming.

Across big tournaments (WTA 1000s and Grand Slams), she has made just one semifinal, at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Her Grand Slam season started with a quarterfinal finish at the Australian Open, which ended up being her best major result of the year.

Anisimova went on after that to suffer three consecutive third-round exits at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Her win-loss record in 2026 is 22/12, and she has yet to add to her title tally this season.
