RR Predicted to Now Lose Suryavanshi to Lurking IPL Rival

The T20 cricket IPL 2026 season has featured some great performances so far. Perhaps none more impressive than the first over Vaibhav Suryavanshi knocked against the all-time great bowler, Jasprit Bumrah.

The T20 World Cup Champion for India was taken for two maximums in the 15-year-old‘s first over against the veteran. And Bumrah had a smile on his face the whole time. No matter what sport or league you play in (NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, IPL, PSL), producing at a high rate as a 15-year-old is impressive.

He has the kind of potential that will make him the best T20 cricketer. For Suryavanshi, it’s a matter of “when,” not “if,” that will happen.

However, some people are raising their eyebrows, namely because of a single prediction involving the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals‘ young phenom.

Mumbai Indians in Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Future?

One online comment is setting all of the cricket world ablaze on social media. Specifically, a comment was made about the future of the young Suryavanshi.

“Vaibhav Suryavanshi will play against his future team tonight,” wrote Jatin Paranjape on X prior to the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals.

Jatin is a former BCCI selector.

So far in his very young career, Suryavanshi has reached numerous milestones. He has played only 10 matches, but has been extremely impressive in them.

In those 10 matches, he has scored 374 runs, including a century, two 50s, 28 fours, 35 sixes, and a high score of 101. Additionally, he has a strike rate of 218.71.

For comparison, Suryavanshi has an astronomical strike rate compared to two of the greatest batters in IPL history. Virat Kohli has a career strike rate of 133.20, while Chris Gayle’s is 148.96.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Suryavanshi’s strike rate is the fact that in his sophomore season, his strike rate has increased. After his maiden season of seven matches, he walked away with a 206.56 strike rate. After three matches in the IPL 2026 season, his strike rate has risen to 248.98. Additionally, he finds himself near the top of the heap on the Orange Cap Leaderboard.

Could the Rajasthan Royals Actually Let Suryavanshi Go?

At this point, RR needs to ask themselves what they are willing to do to retain Suryavanshi. In the past, they have let talented players leave their organization. In fact, they are gaining a reputation for being an organization that trades away talented players.

Most notably, they recently traded Sanju Samson to the Chennai Super Kings prior to last season’s retention deadline. He was captain of the team at the time of the trade.

Mixed into that cocktail is the Mumbai Indians’ aggressive pursuit of young talent. Primarily, they re-acquired their current captain, Hardik Pandya, after he spent two years with the Gujarat Titans.

While it’s possible a trade could occur during the season, with the Rajasthan Royals sitting atop the standings, it doesn’t make sense for the team’s ownership to break up this squad. However, if the Mumbai Indians are serious about acquiring him, they may push the issue and put their money where their mouth is.

If RR decides to play out the season with Suryavanshi on their squad, will they retain him ahead of the 2027 auction? If not, there would be nine other teams willing to empty their purse to add the impressive batter to their roster.

Only time will tell if this fantasy becomes a reality for MI.
