Everything to know about Dohnte Meyers, former DII standout now with the Cincinnati Bengals

The former DII star wide receiver, Dohnte Meyers, just made Cincinnati's 53-man roster and is looking to make an impact once the season officially begins against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Sept. 13.

But there's something special about Meyers' story other than his production on the field.

1. He is a Delta State alum

Meyers played part of his collegiate career at the Division II level, starting at Presbyterian from 2018-19 before transferring to Delta State.

Since the 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID-19, Meyers made his debut as a Statesman in 2021.

Across two seasons and 24 games, Meyers tallied 120 receptions for 1542 yards and 13 touchdowns, earning him first-team All-GSC honors his senior year while leading DSU to a spot in the 2022 DII football playoffs.

2. He went undrafted in 2023

After his collegiate career wrapped up, Meyers wasn't selected in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Instead, he attended rookie minicamp on a tryout basis with the Atlanta Falcons – a mere 28.5 miles from his hometown in Norcross, GA.

3. He DoorDashed to pay for workouts

When the Falcons passed on Meyers, The Athletic reported that he would spend his mornings working out with his trainer before an afternoon session with a receivers coach and an intense recovery routine.

His day was far from over once training wrapped up; he spent his nights DoorDashing until 2 or 3 a.m. just to pay for those workout sessions earlier in the day.

4. He paid $100 for a CFL tryout

Once fall rolled around in 2023, the former Statesman paid $100 to try out for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders, according to the Bengals.

He signed a futures contract with the squad after the CFL season ended, but a broken hand delayed his 2024 debut and a separated shoulder ended his season early.

5. He won a Grey Cup championship

Meyers' bounced back in time for the 2025 season with the Roughriders, accruing 65 catches for 1,056 yards and eight touchdowns to don CFL West Division All-Star honors before leading the Roughriders to a Grey Cup championship (the CFL's Super Bowl).

6. He signed with the Bengals in Jan. 2026.

His stellar year with the Roughriders caught the eye of NFL teams, and he began attending workouts right after the season ended.

The wideout officially signed with the Bengals in January of 2026 – over three years after he graduated from Delta State.

7. He would commute from ATL to CIN

The 26-year-old rookie quickly earned respect in the Bengals locker room.

The team reported that Joe Burrow once texted Meyers before their preseason game against the Lions, asking if he was in town and wanted to get some extra reps in.

Meyers was back home in Atlanta. But that didn’t stop him from making the seven-hour drive to Cincinnati through the night, arriving in time to get extra work the next morning with QB1.

8. He made the 53-man roster in Aug. 2026

Meyers solidified his spot on Cincinnati's squad during preseason play, leading the offense in receiving yards against the Lions before pacing the team in receptions against the Bears and recording a 25-yard punt return.

He even logged three catches on three targets for 51 yards in the first seven minutes against the Eagles before sitting out the rest of the game.

All his hard work and determination paid off on Sunday, Aug. 30, when he officially made the 53-man roster for the regular season. He'll join Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in the WR room.
