Coco Gauff Beats Madison Keys, Updated French Open Women's Bracket at Roland-Garros

Second-seeded Coco Gauff defeated fellow American Madison Keys 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-1, in the French Open quarterfinals on Wednesday.

In doing so, the 21-year-old Gauff became the youngest player since Martina Hingis in 2000 to reach 25 career wins at Roland-Garros.

By virtue of beating the No. 7-seeded Keys, Gauff booked her second consecutive trip to the French Open semifinals.

As two of the hardest-hitting players in women's tennis, Gauff and Keys duked it out in the first set with Keys prevailing in a tiebreak, marking Gauff's first lost set of the tournament.

Gauff turned it on the rest of the way, though, breaking Keys' powerful serve three times in the second set and three more times in the third set en route to victory.

Mistakes were ultimately Keys' undoing, as she committed 60 unforced errors in the match compared to Gauff's 41.

Gauff breezed her way into the quarters with four straight-set victories, but Keys represented a step up in competition.

Keys finally won the first Grand Slam singles title of her career earlier this year when she prevailed in the Australian Open.

The 30-year-old Keys parlayed the momentum gained from winning the Aussie Open into one of the best French Open performances of her career, as she had not made it past the fourth round since 2019.

While Gauff won her first and only Grand Slam title at the 2023 U.S. Open, her most consistent Grand Slam performances over the years have come at Roland-Garros.

Gauff's first Grand Slam quarterfinal was the 2021 French Open, and her first Grand Slam semifinal and final appearances came at the 2022 French Open. She followed that up with trips to the French Open quarters and semis in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Each of Gauff's past three French Open defeats have come at the hands of Iga Świątek, who went on to win the French Open each of those years and is a four-time French Open champ overall.

The draw worked out much better for Gauff this time around, though, as she won't have to face Świątek until the final at the earliest.

Gauff will be favored to advance to her second career French Open final, as she is set for a semifinal clash with the winner of the last quarterfinal between sixth-seeded Mirra Andreeva and the unseeded Loïs Boisson of France.
