Alexandra Eala’s tennis exhibition in December might set attendance records

Filipina tennis star Alexandra Eala will play an exhibition in Manila in December.

On Dec. 8, Eala will play Janice Tjen of Indonesia at the Philippine Arena. The event is called: "Game Set Celebrate."

The Philippine Arena can hold 55,000 spectators. If Eala's fans pack the venue as expected, this event will break the attendance record held by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in South Africa.

Eala's fans follow her, so a home event makes sense

No matter where she plays, Eala has the most fans. The only competitor who rivals her is Joao Fonseca, the Brazilian player on the ATP Tour.

It is therefore a no-brainer to have an event at home in the Philippines for those who have yet to see her play and perhaps cannot travel far.

For context, the 2020 South African exhibition event between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had 51,954 spectators.

Eala attracting new tennis fans

Everyone agrees that Eala is an excellent ambassador for the sport.

She is drawing new fans from the Philippines, many of whom were not attuned to professional tennis before.

Her tenacity and never-say-die attitude make her fun to cheer for. She also has great instincts on the court.

Eala's game is improving at breakneck speed. Her return of serve is stellar. The one element that still requires significant work is her serve, which is among the slowest on the WTA Tour.

And all of it will be on display for a massive home crowd in December.
