Royal Australian Mint unveils limited-edition Bluey $1 coin

The Royal Australian Mint has unveiled a brand new $1 coin, inspired by one of Bluey’s most popular episodes.

CEO Emily Martin said the new coin inspired by the Cricket episode features Bluey and her friend Rusty.

“On the coin we have Rusty making a fantastic straight drive down the centre of the cricket field and we have Bluey cheering in the slips, it’s such a fun coin,” Martin told Today.

Martin said the Royal Australian Mint wanted the coin to capture the idea of friendship and how friends helps you through the hard moments.

“In the episode Rusty is going through a bit of a hard time, has to deal with a fast bowler, but also has to deal with his dad being away for work,” she said.

“The letters and the communication between them is just beautiful.

“It’s about generosity, it’s about imagination, it’s about friendship, and it’s something that we just love celebrating here.”

The ballot for the coins is set to open on Friday, which are expected to be in high demand.

“Bluey coins are so popular,” Martin said.

“We have a ballot that opens tomorrow morning at 8.30am, and it is open until Monday 8.30am.

“So I’d just encourage everyone who wants one of these fantastic coins to jump on our website, register for the ballot and go in for a good chance at getting the coin.

“We know the coins are popular, so we did make a few more this time.”

There will be an uncirculated $1 coin available as well as a limited $1 silver proof coin in a Bluey cricket ball case.

The coins will be on sale to the public from Wednesday, September 23 at 8.30am.
