TEAMS PREVIEW

Sri Lanka Women Preview

After a poor batting performance in the 1st ODI, Sri Lanka Women bounced back strongly in the 2nd ODI to level the series by chasing down a record 274 runs after winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

The Pakistani batters took a liking to the inexperienced Lankan bowling unit. Although Sri Lanka took a couple of early wickets to reduce the visitors to 55/2, the Lankan bowlers failed to apply any pressure from there on, allowing Pakistan to put on a show and score 274/5 in 50 overs.

Chasing down a huge score of 274 to keep the series alive, Sri Lanka lost the wicket of their skipper Chamari Athapaththu early in the run chase for just one run. However, what followed was a marathon partnership led by Vishmi Gunaratne, who scored a run-a-ball 123 runs with 11 fours and 1 six, while Harshitha Samarawickrama carried her bat till the end of the innings, remaining unbeaten on 100 runs off 119 balls. The duo added 203 runs for the 2nd wicket and made it a one-sided contest.

Kavisha Dilhari also added a valuable 40 runs off 33 balls toward the end where she smashed 5 fours as Sri Lanka chased down the target in 46.5 overs to level the series 1-1.

Despite their strong batting display, Sri Lanka's poor performance with the ball is going to be the main talking point, and they will look to deliver a better performance in the series decider on Tuesday. The pace attack in particular, and even the highly experienced Inoka Ranaweera, has not been effective when it matters most. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka has a real chance to claim their third series win this year and maintain their good run in ODIs.

Sri Lanka Women Predicted Playing XI:

Chamari Athapaththu (c), Vishmi Gunaratne, Hasini Perera, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari, Anushka Sanjeewani (wk), Nilakshika Silva, Dewmi Vihanga, Chethana Vimukthi, Inoka Ranaweera, Rashmika Sewwandi

Pakistan Women Preview

After a clinical performance in the 1st ODI extended their winning streak to five matches, Pakistan Women saw their run come to an end in the 2nd ODI, where they failed to defend a score of 274 runs and missed the chance to win the series 2-0.

After being asked to bat first by the hosts, Pakistan Women were in early trouble, losing both openers inside the first 12 overs. However, the senior duo was led by Sidra Amin, who is in a rich vein of form. She scored her 7th ODI hundred for Pakistan, remaining unbeaten on 100 off 120 balls—marking her fourth consecutive ODI match scoring over 50 runs.

Ayesha Zafar (49 runs off 45 balls), Muneeba Ali (45 runs off 62 balls), and Fatima Sana (25 runs off 18 balls) all got starts, but they couldn't convert them into big knocks. Later in the bowling department, Fatima Sana and Nashra Sandhu were the only two bowlers to pick up wickets.

After losing an ODI series 2-0 against South Africa Women earlier in the year, Pakistan Women bounced back with a 4-0 series win over Zimbabwe Women. However, they are yet to make a significant impact against top-tier teams, and they now have a chance to win a historic series against Sri Lanka in their own backyard.

For this to happen, key contributions will be needed from top-order batters Sadaf Shamas (who has scored 479 runs in her last 8 matches) and Sidra Amin (414 runs in her last 9 matches). With the ball, Fatima Sana (12 wickets in her last 8 matches) alongside Nashra Sandhu (13 wickets in her last 7 matches) will be crucial. If these four players perform collectively, Pakistan will have a much better chance of winning the 3rd ODI.

Pakistan Women Predicted Playing XI:

Sadaf Shamas, Gull Feroza, Sidra Amin, Ayesha Zafar, Muneeba Ali, Najiha Alvi (wk), Fatima Sana (c), Syeda Aroob Shah, Nashra Sandhu, Umm-e-Hani, Tasmia Rubab
