Mohamed Salah says he knew what was going to happen to Liverpool - 'don't want to sound arrogant'

Mohamed Salah admits that he was partially driven to the remarkable heights he achieved at Liverpool thanks to his 'challenging' relationship with Sadio Mane.

And the Egyptian adds that the front three he formed alongside his fellow African superstar and Brazilian Roberto Firmino was so good that he knew at least one of them would find the net in every game they played together.

Reds icon Salah will call time on his storied Liverpool career this summer after scoring a remarkable 257 goals in 440 appearances for the club, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups and the Club World Cup along the way.

He is hoping to register a final couple of appearances for the Reds in the closing weeks of the season, but will miss Saturday afternoon's visit from former club Chelsea due to a hamstring problem.

After signing for the Reds in the summer of 2017, Salah would form a deadly front three alongside Mane and Firmino, who had arrived across the previous two summers.

Firmino often played as a facilitiator for the other two in a false 9 role, and Salah says that was crucial for him and Mane to hit the heights they did.

"The three of us had a desire to succeed and achieve stuff, and Bobby had a big role in that because he had to drop for us," Salah told SuperSport.

"He had to sacrifice himself for us a little bit so that we can play our game. We both, me and Sadio, were driven by scoring goals and challenging each other.

"I think it was healthy for us and it was necessary. Jurgen Klopp also let us grow and challenge each other, and it was very helpful for the team.

"We knew how to play football and we had the desire. If you have the desire, you can achieve big things. We three had the desire. Bobby just liked to enjoy his football and didn't care too much about the numbers.

"There was a period of time, and I don't want to sound arrogant, but we knew that one of the three was going to score. It was very good for the team and for the club as well."
