Rachin Ravindra injures shoulder ahead of India series

In Auckland, New Zealand, national cricket team all-rounder Rachin Ravindra dislocated his right shoulder while filming a commercial. Due to the injury, the 26-year-old player may miss the Twenty20 series against India, which begins on October 22.

Injury during filming

As Channel NewsAsia reports, Ravindra sustained the injury on Wednesday during a commercial shoot with Sky in Auckland. The cricketer was filming himself catching a ball in a jump.

New Zealand Cricket said an initial assessment by medical specialists found no significant structural damage. However, the timeline for Ravindra's return to play will depend on his progress during the first weeks of rehabilitation.

Series against India

New Zealand national team performance manager Mike Sandle described the incident as an unfortunate accident. According to him, the activities during the commercial shoot had been agreed in advance by all parties and included appropriate safety measures. He added that processes related to such activities would be reviewed further.

Ravindra has played 115 matches for New Zealand across all cricket formats. He can play at the top or in the middle of the batting order and is also a left-arm finger spinner. At the 2023 50-over World Cup, he scored the most runs for the New Zealand team, while at this year's Twenty20 World Cup he took the most wickets for the team.

New Zealand will host India in five Twenty20 matches starting on October 22. The teams will then play five One Day Internationals and two Test matches next month.
