India enjoyed a mixed but eventful Day 3 at the Asian Games 2026, with the women’s cricket team securing gold and the men’s badminton team assuring itself of a medal after reaching the semi-finals.

India’s women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final to claim the gold medal, giving the country its first gold of the Aichi-Nagoya Games. The men’s badminton team also produced a major result, beating Japan 3-0 in the quarter-finals to progress to the last four and confirm a medal.

The women’s table tennis team advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Thailand 3-2 but then bowed out following a 0-3 defeat to North Korea. The men’s team also exited after losing 0-3 to Korea in the round of 16.

India’s women’s badminton team suffered a 1-3 defeat to Japan in the quarter-finals and were eliminated from the team event.

Shooting remained one of India’s key medal prospects, with both skeet teams completing Day 2 of qualification. The men’s team of Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Khan and Bhavtegh Singh Gill finished fifth with 273 points. Anantjeet was second in the individual standings, while Mairaj was 23rd and Bhavtegh 35th. The women’s team of Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan stood third with 266 points, with Raiza fifth, Parinaaz ninth and Maheshwari 16th individually.

Earlier, Elavenil Valarivan and Parth Mane finished fourth in the 10m air rifle mixed team gold-medal match after qualifying second.

India’s men’s hockey team produced another emphatic performance, beating Sri Lanka 16-1 in Pool A. India had opened their campaign with a 13-1 win over Indonesia.

In wushu, Roshibina Devi progressed after beating Macao, China’s Man Sin Chu by WPD in the women’s 60kg quarter-final. Aryan, however, lost 1-2 to Uzbekistan’s Saydullo Abdurashitov in the men’s 56kg quarter-final. Langlentombi Devi Hanjabam finished ninth in the women’s nanquan final and eighth in the nandao final.

India had two wins in boxing. Sakshi Chaudhary defeated the Philippines’ Aira Villegas 5-0 in the women’s 51kg round of 32 to advance to the round of 16, while Jadumani Singh beat Nepal’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa 5-0 in the men’s 55kg round of 32 to progress to the next round.

In equestrian, Ashish Limaye produced India’s best result in jumping, finishing sixth with Willy Be Dun. Fouaad Mirza finished 24th with Camouflage 38, while Arjan Nagra did not finish with Cooley Goodwood. Earlier in dressage, Ashish finished 13th, Arjan 23rd and Fouaad 26th.

India’s men’s kabaddi team registered a commanding 63-31 victory over South Korea in Group A.

In eFootball, India played out a 0-0 draw against Uzbekistan before securing a win by walkover against Mongolia.

India’s men’s 4x100m medley relay team of Rishabh Das, Akash Mani, Benediction Beniston and Dhanush Suresh failed to qualify for the final. Aryan Nehra had earlier finished fourth in Final B of the men’s 1500m freestyle.

India’s fencing campaign in the individual events also ended, with Hemansh and Sachin eliminated in the men’s individual foil round of 32. Mitva Chaudhari exited the women’s individual epee in the round of 32, while Tanishka Khatri was eliminated in the round of 16.

Soft tennis produced mixed results. Jay Meena defeated Pakistan’s Hussain Arain 4-1, while Aryan Thakur beat Mongolia’s Bold-erdene Altangerel 4-0 before losing 0-4 to Chinese Taipei’s Chen Po-Yi. Aadhya Tiwari lost 1-4 to Thailand’s Alisha Ziegler but later beat Pakistan’s Kainaat Shallwani 4-0, although she failed to qualify for the quarter-finals.

India’s karate campaign ended without a medal. Chetan Bhatt lost his men’s kumite -84kg semi-final against Jordan’s Mohammad Alja'Fari and subsequently missed out in the bronze-medal match. Alisha Choudhary lost 1-6 to Indonesia’s Cok Istri Agung Sanistyarani in the women’s kumite -55kg round of 16 and did not progress further.

India’s men’s team regu in sepaktakraw suffered a 0-3 defeat to Malaysia in Group B. Overall, Day 3 ended with India securing a gold medal in women’s cricket and a confirmed medal in men’s badminton, while Roshibina remained in contention in wushu and the hockey team continued its dominant start.
