The Indian cricket team’s final Women's ODI World Cup 2025 group stage match against Bangladesh at the DY Patil Stadium was washed out due to heavy rain in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.Following a delayed start, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to field first. The match started after another rain interruption and Renuka Singh provided the home team the breakthrough in the first over itself.Bangladesh opener Sumaiya Akter sliced one straight to Shree Charani at short third in the final ball of the first over. Rubya Haider and Sharmin Akhter tried to rebuild the innings but found it difficult to keep the scoreboard ticking.Deepti Sharma finally sent Haider back in the 10th over with Bangladesh struggling at 34/2. However, a few overs later, the rain returned and held up play for another two hours before the covers came off again with the match reduced to a 27-over affair.Soon after the restart, Bangladesh lost their captain Nigar Sultana to a run out courtesy of Radha Yadav’s direct hit.Yadav would come back to deal further damage later on, sending back Sobhana Mostary, Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan in quick succession to break the back of the Bangladesh middle order.Shree Charani also chipped in with two wickets, including Bangladesh’s top scorer Sharmin Akhter, while Amanjot Kaur picked up one as Bangladesh’s innings wrapped up for 119/9 in 27 overs.Chasing a revised target of 126 to win, Smriti Mandhana opened the innings with Amanjot Kaur in the absence of her regular partner Pratika Rawal, who picked up an ankle injury during the first innings. After a watchful start, Smriti Mandhana came into her own in the fourth over, smashing four boundaries off Nishita Akter Nishi to inject impetus into the chase.Smriti Mandhana and Amanjot Kaur then went on to bring up their 50-run partnership and had added 57 together when the rain returned and brought an end to the contest.India will take on Australia, the defending Women's World Cup champions, next in the semi-finals on Thursday.
