England eased to a 3-0 friendly win over Wales on Thursday and they resume their World Cup qualifying campaign with a Group K trip to Latvia.

Thomas Tuchel's men have won their first five qualifiers to nil and England's captain and record goalscorer Harry Kane should be fit to start in Riga.

Latvia vs England preview

England produced a scintillating performance to beat Serbia 5-0 in their last World Cup qualifier and the Three Lions warmed up for their Group K trip to Latvia by thumping Wales 3-0 in last week's friendly.

Thomas Tuchel was not happy with the Wembley atmosphere, complaining that "the stadium was silent" despite England scoring three times in the first 20 minutes.

It is a sign of how smoothly things are going for Tuchel that he feels confident enough to criticise England's supporters.

Apart from June's 3-1 friendly defeat to Senegal, the Three Lions have been utterly untroubled under the former Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager.

England have won their first five qualifiers to nil, including March's 3-0 home win over Latvia, and last month's display in Serbia suggests they can move through the gears against stronger opposition.

Tuchel should not be expecting street parties or open-top bus parades if England extend their winning streak in Riga and a low-scoring away victory looks the best bet.

Only two of Latvia's last 17 internationals featured over 3.5 goals and one of those was last week's disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Andorra, in which the four goals came from only four shots on target.

Latvia drew 1-1 at home with Albania before a 1-0 defeat to Serbia in Group K and they also lost to North Macedonia and Armenia on their own patch in the 2024-25 Nations League.

That form spells trouble against an England side who should have Harry Kane leading the line after he sat out the win over Wales due to an ankle knock.

England had to grind out a 2-0 victory over Albania while they have also beaten Andorra 1-0 and 2-0 in their qualifying campaign and it could be a similar story in Riga.

Latvia striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis forced Jordan Pickford into a save at Wembley in March but, remarkably, that is the only shot on target England have faced in five qualifiers.

Back Latvia forward Sits for another caution

Latvia's young forward Dario Sits has been putting himself about in Group K, picking up three yellow cards in his two starts and three substitute appearances.

Sits may have to resort to foul tactics to break down England's attacks so he could add to his card tally on Tuesday.

Stones could stun home defence in Riga

Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice's set-piece delivery has been exceptional for Arsenal in recent seasons and two of England's five goals in Serbia came from dead-ball situations.

John Stones scored twice in only 547 minutes of Premier League action for Manchester City last season and the centre-back could get chances in Riga.
