Brighton 1-1 Leeds: Luka Vuskovic cancels out Jayden Bogle's opener as Daniel Farke's side rue missed chances

Leeds were made to pay for countless missed chances as Brighton fought back to claim 1-1 draw - and continue the Whites' struggles down at the south coast.

Leeds have had no joy at Brighton in recent years - their last win at the south coast club came in 2009 and they went eight games without a goal at the home of the Seagulls, dating back to 2012.

But Jayden Bogle ended that run by tapping home from close range after Ao Tanaka kept the ball alive following Bart Verbruggen's save to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Leeds striker Calvert-Lewin should have had a first-half hat-trick, putting a one-on-one wide early on before seeing an effort cleared off the line by Lewis Dunk after rounding Verbruggen in the minutes following Bogle's opener.

Tanaka then hit the bar almost immediately after that chance, before the Leeds midfielder had an effort ruled out for offside after the break. Anton Stach also had a close-range effort well saved as the chances grew.

But as Leeds missed chances, Brighton's confidence grew. After Malick Yalcouye and Charalampos Kostoulas went close, Luka Vuskovic got off the mark at his new club by heading home from a corner.

Brighton could have won it when Promise David was found in the box but he fired over - then Pascal Gross missed an even bigger chance as he scooped over from four yards out.

But the most wasteful team on the day were Leeds, who ended up with an Expected Goals tally of 2.66 - but ended up with only one goal and one point.

Farke: It's a good point but we should put this game to bed

Leeds head coach Daniel Farke to Sky Sports:

"Brighton away is always a good point, especially if you look at our recent history as a club in the last one or two decades. It's definitely a good point. Brighton are a good team and are in some very good form.

"It was also a missed chance not to win it today. At half-time we should have been out of sight. In such a difficult away game, you miss so many clear-cut chances. I'm sure in the Expected Goals we were way higher than them - although in the second half they were also pushing for the equaliser.

"There was also an unlucky goal scored by Ao Tanaka which was one inch offside. Normally in such a game, you will lose it. So happy we go home with something in our hands.

"Dominic should have put the game to bed in the first half, Anton in the second, Lukas as well and the offside goal - so we had many, many good situations. But Brighton is a good side. So if you don't put the game to bed, they have the chance with dominating possession to come back into the game. But it was overall a good performance from my team.

"Five points after these three difficult starting games is quite impressive. Also success in the cup game vs Nottingham - so we want to ride this momentum as much as possible. No one can take away these five points. They're crucial - and also the confidence from these five points."

"First half we had a lack of intensity and energy. Second half we showed a different phase and intensity. We won the personal duels and the second balls.

"It's also about first, outrunning the opponent, doing the basics of the football game, and then being a good football team in possession. Today, we started with a different mindset - the wrong mindset. And then we changed it. And you could see how fast we could change the game.

"What my team stands for is real character; they always stick together. They face adversity and they did it again today. So I'm very impressed with the reaction from my team. We will find answers, find solutions - and then become a physical team from the beginning."
