Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird steps down - ABC News Australia

In Australia, Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird said he will not seek re-election at next month's annual general meeting. David Boon will temporarily replace him.

Loss of state support

As ABC News Australia reports, Baird informed the other board members of his decision on Monday. He is leaving the position after losing the support of Cricket NSW, the cricket association of New South Wales.

The cause of the disagreements was Baird's support for a decision to allow private investment in Big Bash League clubs. Cricket NSW, which the outlet calls the country's most influential state association, was dissatisfied with this move.

Work at Cricket Australia

Mike Baird, the former premier of New South Wales, served on the Cricket Australia board for six years. He had held the position of chair of the organization since February 2023.

Baird had the opportunity to move into an independent role within Cricket Australia's structure, but decided not to continue working without the support of his state's association.
