India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 1st Test Day 2: India have taken the lead, but have lost six wickets against South Africa in the second session on Day 2 of the first Test in Kolkata. India lead South Africa by 12 runs, having reached 171/6 after 55 overs, with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav at the crease. India captain Shubman Gill's participation is in doubt, as he left the field with a neck injury after facing just three deliveries. KL Rahul (39), Washington Sundar (29), Rishabh Pant (27) and Ravindra Jadeja (27) all made good starts but failed to convert them into big scores. On Day 1, pacer Jasprit Bumrah stole the spotlight with a five-wicket haul as India bundled out South Africa for just 159 in their first innings. (LIVE SCORECARD)

South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince blamed their struggles on "inconsistency of the bounce" and the "trust" deficit it created on a tricky Eden Gardens surface as India took the opening-day honours.

"Quite often what can happen is that when you expect batters to get to 20, 30 and grow in confidence, I don't particularly believe that any of the batters grew in confidence because of the inconsistency of the bounce," Prince said the erratic bounce prevented his batters from ever feeling settled, even after getting starts.

"What can happen is that you don't trust the surface as much as you should after spending an hour at the crease."
