Michael Carrick shares verdict on Bruno Fernandes’ future at Manchester United

Fernandes is demanding United show ambition this summer as he clearly wants to win the Premier League. But with his rumoured release clause, there will be questions asked this summer.

Now, speaking to the press ahead of United vs Sunderland this weekend, Carrick was asked about the future of Fernandes.

“I think Bruno, you can see he’s happy, and he’s playing some fantastic football. Maybe he’s as good as he’s played ever, and he’s had really good spells here.

“So he looks happy. I think he’s got a big end to the season here. He’s got a big summer, of course. But yeah, as a football club, we love having him here. He’s a big part of what we do.”

Fernandes is Mr. Manchester United in this current era, and he is evidently happy, but he deserves more in terms of playing for a team challenging for titles.

Ineos promised Fernandes success when he penned his new deal in 2024; this summer, they need to keep that promise.

Manchester United can win the league next season

Fernandes might be happy, but to keep him happy, United need to challenge next season and be in the title race throughout the campaign.

This season, despite the tragic August and December under Ruben Amorim, United still sat within the rear-view mirror of the title chasers.

Without Amorim and with midfield improvements, United could easily have made it a three-way race challenging for the title this season.

Next season, Carrick just needs to replicate the form he’s led United to since January, and it would be enough to be in a title race.

This summer is key, but a title challenge next season feels on the cards.
