Tatiana Prozorova reveals what her coach told her not to do against Alex Eala after beating her in Singapore

Tatiana Prozorova pulled off a huge upset against Alex Eala at the Singapore Open.

Prozorova beat Eala after being a set and a break down, coming back to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The Russian qualifier is currently the world number 180, with Prozorova the lowest-ranked player to beat Eala this year.

After beating Eala in her only match at the Singapore Open, Prozorova has revealed exactly what she was told by her coach to do against the Filipina.

Prozorova was asked about her victory over Eala in her post-match press conference, as she gave her reaction to the biggest win of her career so far.

"It feels amazing, really amazing," said the 22-year-old. "No words to describe it, but the only words I have are like amazing, but still an amazing match against Alexandra.

"I knew that she's a very good fighter and I was preparing myself before today's match because every time players play against Eala it's tough, because she has a very big fanbase from the Philippines and today I also saw how they supported her, but I am glad that I was calm during the match and didn't make any reaction to this and just focus on the match on my side."

Eala is one of the most popular players in tennis right now, and when continuing to be asked about this Prozorova revealed that her coach advised her to not react to them.

"I remember how the match started, they were very noisy," continued Prozorova. "They gave her a lot of support, but I was preparing myself for this match because I had said that it will be very often in the future when you play against some local player, well maybe not local, but the countries are very close to each other, of course the opponent will have a lot of fans.

"So it's normal, just normal. My husband, who is my coach, helped me to prepare myself and be mentally just to be ready for this and do not react and I did it."

There are 162 places between Eala and Prozorova in the rankings, and the latter was asked if she ever actually believed she could win the match.

"You know, I didn't have any feeling that I can win the match," responded Prozorova. "I just have the feeling that I should fight till the end and believe in myself and just do what I do usually and it worked. Because sometimes you don't need to think about the future, what you can do or what you couldn't do. Just believe, trust and work. That's all."

Prozorova is the lowest-ranked to beat Eala this year, and is the 18th player to beat the Filipina in 2026.

Some of the other players who have beaten Eala this year include Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova.

Linda Noskova, Elise Mertens and Iva Jovic all have multiple wins over Eala this year, with the latter beating her friend three times in 2026 after their US Open match.

Eala will now look to put this defeat behind her, as she continues her busy schedule in Asia.
