No. 11 WashU Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season With 5-2 Over Div. II McKendree On Senior Day

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – With the sun shining and just a slight cool breeze, the No. 11 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 5-2 win over Div. II McKendree on Monday afternoon.

Prior to the match, the Bears honored their three seniors: Case Fagan, Colin Fox, and Colin Scruggs for their dedication to the program over the past four seasons.

In doubles, Fox and first-year Jeremy Sieben were the first duo done with a 6-1 win. Then it was the pair of Scruggs and first-year Spencer Yamamoto who claimed the 6-3 victory at number three doubles, giving WashU the doubles point and the lead, 1-0.

The Bearcats were able to prevent the sweep with a 6-2 win at number two doubles.

In singles, it was junior Nathan Tam who finished first at number four singles, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Next to finish for WashU was sophomore Drew Koval, who claimed a 6-1, 7-6 win at number three singles to put the Bears up 3-0.

Scruggs clinched the match for WashU with a three-set win at the top spot, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Sieben scored the final point for the Bears with his own three-set win at number two singles. After winning the first set, he was up 5-2 in the second. Bendix Schroeder for McKendree then won the next eight straight games to win the second set and take a 3-0 lead in the third.

Relentless, Sieben stormed back and won the next six straight games to complete the comeback, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

The Bearcats would win the final two matches at number five and six singles to prevent the shutout.

WashU now waits for its seeding in the upcoming 2026 UAA Men's Tennis Tournament this weekend in Altamonte Springs, Fla., on Apr. 23-25. Check back later this week for the tournament bracket and further tournament info.
