Brook noted that England should improve this aspect in the format of One Day Internationals, or ODIs. In his view, playing against spin can significantly affect match results.

The captain called Pietersen a strong player against spin bowling. He also mentioned Joe Root and Marcus Trescothick, saying that the current national team cricketers can learn from their experience. Pietersen is England’s third-highest run-scorer across all cricket formats.

Series against Sri Lanka

In the first series after Pietersen joined the team, England defeated Sri Lanka 3-0, a side that relies heavily on spinners. After that, England overtook India and topped the Twenty20 world rankings.

England’s next test will be a home three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which begins later on Tuesday. Brook said the team wants to continue its successful run after the Twenty20 victories, play at a more intense pace and put opponents under pressure with bat and ball.
