Mangut rues Nasarawa United’s NPFL poor start

Nasarawa United coach, Mbwas Mangut, has expressed concern over the club’s poor start to the Nigeria Premier Football League season following Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin.

The result left the Solid Miners with four points from five matches, having suffered three defeats in their opening five games.

Kwara United took an early lead through Sanni Muhammed, but Nasarawa United responded quickly through Jofrank Istifanus to restore parity.

The visitors, however, failed to hold on for a point as Abdulsalam Abdulsalam scored in the second half to hand Kwara United all three points.

Mangut admitted that his side’s position on the table was worrying but insisted there were positives to take from the encounter.

“If you look at the log, it’s really something to get worried about. Five games, amounting to 15 points, and we have four points from those,” Mangut said.

“However, we have some positives and some negatives to take from the game. Both sides yearned for the result. We had a great game in the first half, conceded an early goal, but we recovered almost immediately.”

The coach said the team must quickly find a solution to its poor run rather than dwell on the setbacks.

“We will move on from this phase and stabilise the team going forward. Losing points in every effort put in isn’t the best, but we will work towards it,” he added.

Nasarawa United will now turn their attention to their next league fixture as they seek to halt their difficult start to the campaign.
