How Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal owners' net worths compare - with one trailing behind

There is a notable difference between the personal wealth levels of some of English football's high-profile owners

It is hard for a football team to compete at the highest level these days without an owner willing to splash the cash. There are levels, though, when it comes to the net worth of the owners of some of English football's big hitters.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal have all spent big in the last two summer transfer windows. Liverpool twice spent more than £100m in 2025, adding Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, while United's most recent addition has seen Carlos Baleba arrive for up to £70m from Brighton.

As we head into the final few days of the window, we could see some more last-minute movements. There has also been some major investment at Anfield, albeit behind the scenes, with a consortium involving Jeff Bezos investing in the club.

Spending power and net worth don't always correlate entirely, with other sources of income from within the game often boosting football clubs' spending power on their own. Even so, the net worth of these clubs' owners shows a pointed difference.

Arsenall - Stan Kroenke

Arsenal owner Kroenke was worth $22.2m in the most recent Forbes billionaires list, and his net worth has since climbed to $24.3bn (£17.82bn). That sum has more than doubled since the American became the Gunners' sole shareholder in 2018.

The American's net worth also puts him 12th on Forbes' list of the richest sports club owners. In addition to Arsenal, he owns franchises in the NBA, NFL and other competitions, with his Los Angeles Rams team winning the Super Bowl in 2021.

Away from sport, the billionaire has significant real estate, largely in the form of shopping plazas or ranches across North America. His wife, Ann Walton Kroenke, is an heiress to the Walmart fortune.

Manchester United - Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Ratcliffe is the most recent owner of the three. His United takeover was announced in December 2023 and made official a few months after that.

The British billionaire's net worth sat at $18.4bn on the last Forbes list, and this has since dropped slightly to $18.2bn (£15.92bn), the same number shown on the Sunday Times Rich List.

That is down from a peak of $22.9bn in 2023, with much of the 73-year-old's fortune coming from chemicals conglomerate INEOS. He also has a number of sporting ventures, including stakes in football clubs OGC Nice and Lausanne-Sport and the cycling team now known as Netcompany-Ineos.

Liverpool - John W. Henry

Liverpool owner Henry has by far the lowest net worth of the three men on this list. The Fenway Sports Group co-founder has a net worth of $5.7bn (£4.18bn) according to Forbes, a sum which has more than doubled since 2021.

Henry's FSG business is also the owner of baseball franchise the Boston Red Sox. Away from sports, he is the principal owner of the Boston Globe newspaper.

The 76-year-old's net worth is a drop in the ocean compared to recent investor Bezos. The Amazon owner is the fourth-richest person in the world, according to Forbes, with his net worth reported at $224bn (£164.3bn).
