Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta receives warning as Myles Lewis-Skelly concern addressed

Arsenal are in FA Cup action before returning to the Premier League in midweek

Arsenal turn their attention to the FA Cup on Sunday as their busy fixture list shows no sign of letting up. The Gunners are still involved in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and the Champions League, as well as the bread and butter of the Premier League.

But it's the world's oldest cup competition that has their attention this weekend as they host Wigan Athletic at the Emirates in a bid to maintain their charge on all four fronts. The Gunners swatted aside Portsmouth in the last round with the help of an own goal and a Gabriel Martinelli hat-trick at Fratton Park.

Now the League One Latics lay in wait as the north Londoners bid to reach the final for the first time since 2020 when they went all the way against Chelsea.

It's another frantic week for Mikel Arteta's side after that, as they face basement battlers Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday night before a visit to Tottenham next weekend.

Here, Mirror Football has all the latest coming out of the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta sent warning

Pep Guardiola has indirectly warned Arteta that he shouldn't "relax" during the Premier League title race. However, the City boss admits he would prefer to be in the north London outfit's position right now.

Guardiola said: "I would prefer to be in the position Arsenal are in than our position.

"If I would be in the position with four points in front of second, with 12 games left, I would not be relaxed. Imagine being four points behind, I am less relaxed. I would still prefer to be in the position Arsenal are in than we are."

City have chipped away at Arsenal's lead in recent weeks, with the gap down to just four points after Arsenal's draw with Brentford and City's victory over Fulham in midweek. Guardiola's side host Newcastle next in the Premier League, by which time the Gunners could have opened up a seven point lead as they face Wolves on Wednesday.

Myles Lewis-Skelly concern raised

Nigel Winterburn hopes Myles Lewis-Skelly won't be left behind in the Arsenal squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The former Arsenal defender waxed lyrical to Gambling.com about the 19-year-old but admits he has concerns.

Winterburn said: " Myles is a fabulous young footballer. He had a great break out season last year and did a terrific job for the team. He is super confident and you must remember, he is still very young.

"Mikel obviously wanted to add squad depth in that position with Kiwior departing and with Hincapie and also Calafiori, who has had some injuries, Myles has dropped down a little, but with so many games coming up, Myles can do a job in centre of midfield, which was his preferred position as a youngster."

Regarding Lewis-Skelly's ambitions for the England squad, Winterburn added: " So, with such a busy schedule I suspect Myles will get a lot more game time as Mikel rotates as Arsenal push on all fronts. As for England, I hope this doesn’t distract from the chances of going to the World Cup."
