Gaza amputee football team names Pep Guardiola honorary coach

The “Gaza of Will” amputee football team in the Gaza Strip has named Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, as its honorary coach, citing his support for the Palestinian people.

In a video shared by the team, players were seen holding a photograph of Guardiola as the team’s captain announced the decision. “Guardiola is the honorary coach of the Gaza of Will team,” he said, thanking the Spanish coach for his humanitarian positions and his solidarity with Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza.

The team said the honour was awarded in recognition of Guardiola’s public support for the Palestinian cause and his continued expressions of solidarity amid the severe humanitarian conditions facing Gaza.

Guardiola has previously voiced support for Palestinians during charity events and international demonstrations, and has condemned the suffering of children in Gaza. He has also appeared on several occasions wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh while speaking about images of children trapped under rubble and the lack of adequate international response.
