Roy Keane Delivers Ultimate Insult To Argentina Stars After Ugly Scenes

Spain have been 2026 FIFA World Cup winners, overcoming Argentina after extra-time in a cagey affair in New Jersey.

There was very little in terms of goalmouth action in the opening half, with neither team crafting a real chance of note. In fact, Argentina would not have a shot of any form in the first 45 minutes.

Spain were the far superior team after the interval, dominating possession. The defending champions were camped at the edge of their own box for the vast majority of the second and defended resolutely to force the contest to extra-time.

Argentina would play the entirety of extra-time with just ten men after Enzo Fernandez was sent off in stoppage time after picking up a second yellow card.

Spain would finally make the breakthrough in the second half of extra-time, with Ferran Torres getting the all important goal.

World Cup final marred by ugly Argentina scenes

This was a well deserved victory for Spain, with Argentina producing an abject display throughout the game.

The South Americans were incredibly physical throughout and were fortunate to finish the game with just one sending off. Even when the game finished, they continued to act in a questionable manner.

A fight would break out in the middle of the pitch after the final whistle, although the images were not immediately shared on our television screens. Commentators described ugly scenes involving both sets of players, with the camera eventually cutting to Argentine boss Lionel Scaloni attempting to act as peacemaker.

We now have a better idea as to what occurred.

It seems that Nahuel Molina struck out at one of the Spanish players as they ran onto the pitch to celebrate the victory. Leandro Paredes, who behaved atrociously throughout the match and should have been sent off, would then become involved in a confrontation with Gavi.

It was a sad end to what had been a great World Cup campaign for Argentina, who themselves have no issue antagonising their opponents during games.

Speaking on ITV, Roy Keane said that that Argentina players could not complain considering their behaviour in the recent past.

It was well deserved (for Spain), fantastic to watch.

There's parts of Argentina where you don't like to see the bit at the end. Some of them were doing that to England players the other night.

Obviously they can't take it. You've got to take your medicine.

Very poor behaviour. Being told you can give it but can't take it in football is one of the biggest insults that can be said of a team.

Roy Keane enjoys physicality in football, but he clearly feels that a line was crossed by Argentina on this occasion. He did go on to suggest that we perhaps should not be too harsh on them as they attempted to find a different way to win the game.

Of course, that does not make up for their behaviour after the match had ended.
