Hansi Flick gives his verdict on Barcelona’s last-gasp win over Girona after being sent off late on

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was a happy man after seeing his team score a late winner to down Girona 2-1 on Saturday in La Liga.

Ronald Araujo came up with the goods after coming on as a substitute and Flick was thrilled with the defender’s contribution.

”It was a fantastic match. It’s very important to see how we earned the three points for the future. This gives us confidence, and I’m very happy for the team,” he told reporters.

”We created a lot of chances, but if we’re honest, Girona created a lot in the first half. The next few games are very important for us, and we need Pedri to be fresh; he’s incredibly important for the team. We have to manage the minutes of players like that, including Lamine.

”I’m very happy for Araujo. His attitude always plays, what he gives to this club and this team. He can play in that position at certain times. I asked him before he came on if he could play there and he said yes.”

Flick saw red late on, meaning he will now miss El Clasico, and may face more scrutiny for a gesture he made after Araujo found the back of the net.

The Barca boss was asked about it afterwards and insisted it was purely an instinctive reaction.

”Football is all about emotions. For me, it was fantastic to score the second goal. It wasn’t made for anyone or anything. It’s the tension. It wasn’t aimed at anyone,” he explained.
