Daniil Medvedev is now two wins away from claiming his first ATP Masters 1000 title in over two years.Medvedev defeated Alex de Minaur, 6-4, 6-4, to secure his 50th top-ten win and book his place in the final four of the Shanghai Masters. The Russian is also now the third active player to reach 50 hard-court semifinals, following ATP veterans Gael Monfils and Novak Djokovic.Though he was able to best the Australian in straight sets, the match was a physically demanding test for Medvedev, who had endured a near-three-hour battle with Learner Tien two days prior. In an interview with ‘More!’ after his triumph, the 29-year-old said: “It was a very tough match, especially after playing Learner two days ago.“Even despite a day off, my legs were still tired. My brain was tired because it was a very nerve-wracking match. I’m glad I was able to stay focused from start to finish and hit the ball well.“He [de Minaur] played the important moments well, and the last two games were crazy, so I’m very happy with my performance.“There were doubts [That he would recover from the match with Tien], but I always fight. That is, if there is no injury, and there was no injury, then you need to fight to the end, and that is what I did.More Tennis News“The second set was very difficult physically, perhaps for him too, because at the end he made a few mistakes in important moments.“It’s humid and hot here every day, but I fought from start to finish, and overall I felt fine.”Daniil Medvedev’s next opponent at the 2025 Shanghai MastersMedvedev’s semifinal opponent at the Shanghai Masters comes in the form of Arthur Rinderknech, whom he has played just once before on the ATP Tour. The two clashed for the first and only time in the second round of the 2022 US Open, when the former world number one was defending the title he won at Flushing Meadows in 2021.In straight sets, Medvedev brushed aside the Frenchman before going on to reach the fourth round, where he ultimately bowed out to Nick Kyrgios. Now, Rinderknech will have his chance to earn revenge as he seeks to advance to a maiden ATP Masters 1000 final.
