Liverpool have made Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton their top transfer target for this summer, according to Football Transfers. The Reds are in the midst of a major summer of change, with Andoni Iraola replacing Arne Slot as the manager, while all of Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson have departed on a free transfer. That means the club are desperate to bring in new signings to help bolster the squad, with it already having been paper thin, and they have now made their decision on their top target.Liverpool Want Adam Wharton After FSG U-TurnWharton, who has been described as a 'superstar', has been strongly linked with a move away from Selhurst Park all summer after a stellar campaign in which he played a key part in helping them win the Conference League.Liverpool are among the clubs who have been linked the most, but they are yet to make a formal move. That's because Palace are demanding a fee in the region of £100m to let him leave, having seen Elliot Anderson leave Nottingham Forest in a £116m deal to Man City earlier in the window. That had put FSG off a deal for a while, with Wolves star Joao Gomes understood to have been seen as an alternative target. The Brazilian was available for around £35m, and was open to making the move to Anfield. However, Gomes has now agreed to make the move to Aston Villa instead, with Liverpool having pulled out of a deal following internal talks, with a decision made to go all in on Wharton.Palace's asking price is still considered to be a hurdle, but Iraola is a big fan of the 22-year-old, and Liverpool have proven to be willing to pay big to secure their top targets in recent times, having broken the British transfer record twice last year to sign Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.Wharton Move Would be PerfectIraola's teams have always been built on being comfortable in possession and strong in transition, and the addition of Wharton would help them to do just that. With his ability to play as a natural number six, it would allow Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister to get more freedom in attacking areas, where they are more comfortable. A deal wouldn't be cheap, but the best players never are, and he would be an instant upgrade for the squad.Liverpool need to make a splash after a very disappointing campaign last time out, and now that the club have made it clear that he is their top target, they must get a deal over the line or risk another tough season.
