“Start again”: 23-year-old drops hint over Wolverhampton Wanderers future amid European transfer links

Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Hugo Bueno has spoken with determination ahead of next season, hinting his future may lay at Molineux.

Wolves man Hugo Bueno has drawn interest from PSV Eindhoven and Fiorentina this summer. The Spaniard as viewed among the players who could find opportunities back at a higher level after Wanderers’ relegation to the Championship.

However, Bueno has spoken with determination heading into the 2026/27 campaign at Molineux. It could indicate that the left-back is ready to stick with the Old Gold and fight for a return to the Premier League.

“It’s a new season, so everything starts from zero,” he said, as quoted by the Express and Star. “We put everything to one side and we just start again. We are fresh and we know what we have to do.

*“It makes everything clear for everyone. We have our objective and we know exactly what that is, and we just have to go for it. We have to get together every training [session] and every match with this in mind. It’s really important and then we build a good mentality. We have new players as well, so everything’s fresh and new.”*

Why Hugo Bueno can be a valuable asset for Wolves next season

Bueno has been with Wolves since the summer of 2019. He first joined the U18s squad after starting out in his native Spain but swiftly progressed through the ranks before making his senior breakthrough.

He became a Premier League regular at Molineux and gained extra experience while on loan with Eredivisie side Feyenoord as well. Bueno has established himself as an athletic and well-rounded player on the left, offering his services as a full-back or wing-back.

His energy and speed makes him a good fit for high intensity football Cesar Peixoto wishes to play. His crossing ability can be key to getting the best out of powerhouse striker Raul Jimenez too.

If Bueno remains at Molineux this summer, don’t be surprised to see him really lock down the starting berth on the left. He could notch a few assists along the way if he can establish himself as Peixoto’s go-to man too.

Although Bueno is ready to attack the 2026/27 campaign with a fresh start at Wolves, his words don’t mean a transfer is ruled out. He is still the subject of European transfer interest and the opportunity to play at a higher level will prove tempting.

However, there is a case to be made that staying with Wolverhampton Wanderers and holding a key role in a promotion-winning side can be just as good for his progress. Bueno can really establish himself at Molineux with a strong season, and that might see his stock surge ahead of a Premier League return.

None of those keen have made a formal move for Bueno at this stage, so he will be remaining focused on the task at hand. Time will tell whether that remains the case though, with business picking up across Europe following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup.
