TEAMS PREVIEW

Kuwait Preview

Oman head into the contest on the back of a convincing victory over Singapore. They posted the tournament’s highest total, scoring 316/9 after being asked to bat first, before bowling Singapore out for 185. Oman were reduced to 52/3 early on, but their middle order stepped up brilliantly to guide them to a formidable total.

Oman entered the tournament following an impressive performance in the recent ACC event. They will now look to continue their preparations in Malaysia, with Qatar their second assignment in the Men’s Premier Cup. The side also played a series against Goa ahead of the tournament. Oman won the T20 series 2-0 but lost the ODI series 2-1.

The tournament also marks Vinayak Shukla’s first international assignment as Oman captain after replacing long-serving skipper Jatinder Singh. Shukla had already led the side during the warm-up series against Goa. He also made an impressive 88 runs in his captaincy debut.

Oman are currently fourth in the ICC CWC League 2 standings and need to finish in the top four to advance to the final qualifying round of the 2027 ODI World Cup. They have collected 31 points from 28 matches, with eight games still remaining in the competition.

Mohammed Al Balushi could be the player to watch out for. He scored 171 runs in five innings during the Asian Games Men’s T20 Qualifier at a strike rate of 120.42. He will be keen to carry that form into this series, and we back him to score over 25 runs in the upcoming contest. Naveed Al Balushi will also be an important figure with the ball, having picked up six wickets in the previous tournament.

Kuwait Predicted Playing XI:

H Mirza (wk), H U Wahab, J Singh, V Shukla (c), Z Islam, J Ramanandi, S Rahim, U Shakeel, W Ali, S Ahmed, S Bukkapatnam, F Shah, H A Shah, M Imran, S Sanjeev

Oman Preview

Kuwait made an emphatic start to their ACC Premier Cup campaign, completely outclassing Singapore in their opening fixture. After posting 249/4 on the board, they produced a clinical bowling performance to dismiss Singapore for just 96, securing a massive 153-run victory and giving their net run rate a significant boost.

Meet Bhavsar was the standout performer with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 84, while Mohammed Aslam added a valuable half-century. The pair took control of the innings after Kuwait were in a tricky position, stitching together a 105-run partnership for the third wicket. Aslam then made an impact with the ball as well, claiming four wickets, while Mohammad Aqif Farooq chipped in with three.

Kuwait’s confidence will be further strengthened by their recent ODI run. They arrived in the tournament unbeaten in their last five matches in the ICC CWC Challenge League A. They shared points with Jersey and went on to defeat Denmark, PNG and Qatar, while their match against Kenya was abandoned without a result.

They also have a strong record in the 50-over edition of the Premier Cup. Kuwait won three of their four group-stage matches in the previous edition before their semifinal against Nepal was washed out. They were struggling at 37/6 when rain brought an early end to the contest. With another win over UAE, Kuwait would put themselves in a strong position to secure a semifinal berth, having already moved to the top of Group B.

A place in the 2027 Asia Cup will also be a major incentive for Kuwait. Ali Zaheer has been one of their most reliable batters, finishing the Challenge League A with 341 runs at an average of 42.62. Bhavsar is another player in good touch and has accumulated 273 runs in nine innings, with his unbeaten 84 in the tournament opener further underlining his form.

Kuwait also possess plenty of firepower in their bowling attack. Yasin Patel was their leading wicket-taker in the Challenge League A with 18 wickets from nine innings, while Mohamed Shafeeq wasn’t far behind with 15 wickets. If their key players continue to deliver at both ends, Kuwait have every chance of making another deep run in the competition.

Oman Predicted Playing XI:

Ravija Sandaruwan, Clinto Anto(w), Muhammad Umar, Mohammed Aslam, Bilal Tahir, Yasin Patel(c), Nimish Lathief, Meet Bhavsar, Naveenraj Rajendran, Anudeep Chenthamara, Mohamed Shafeeq

Oman Actual Playing XI:

Vinayak Shukla, Jatinder Singh, Hammad Mirza, Hasnain Ul Wahab, Mujibur Imran Ali, Shakeel Ahmad, Jay Odedra, Faisal Shah, Karan Sonavale, Jiten Ramanandi, Nadeem Khan
