Middlesex have appointed former New Zealand player Peter Fulton as men's head coach.The 47-year-old, who played 23 Tests for his country, has agreed a three-year deal and joins from Canterbury.He comes in to replace Dane Vilas, who had been in interim charge of the county side since Richard Johnson left last June.Fulton has been in charge of Canterbury since 2020 and led them to the Plunkett Shield - New Zealand's equivalent of the County Championship - in his first year in charge.Under his leadership, Canterbury have also won two domestic 50-over competitions and are currently second in the Plunkett Shield."I have always followed county cricket and wanted an opportunity to be a part of it," Fulton said."The club has a rich history and I can't wait to arrive and get to work on building a cricket team of which the club and supporters can continue to be very proud of."He takes over a Middlesex side that finished fourth in Division Two of the County Championship in 2025 and made the quarter-finals of the One Day Cup."After a thorough process with a number of high-quality candidates, Peter emerged as an ambitious, exciting and hugely talented coach, with a proven track record of success in New Zealand domestic cricket with Canterbury," Middlesex director of cricket Alan Coleman said."Along with this, he has helped produce a number of Black Cap players from his teams – with producing international players a key ambition of the club over the coming seasons."I'd like to thank Canterbury Cricket for allowing an early release of Peter's contract to allow him to join us for pre-season training.
