Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is safe in his job for the time being after beating Sunderland, while the club has been warned their "history is disappearing"Ruben Amorim will continue in his role as Manchester United manager for at least the next few weeks following victory over Sunderland. Pressure was relieved at Old Trafford after securing a third consecutive home win, though speculation has suggested a different result could have led to Amorim's dismissal.Summer acquisition Benjamin Sesko netted one of United's two goals on Saturday and has earned deserved recognition from a particular club icon. Meanwhile, another United icon has expressed concern about the club's "history disappearing" following a disappointing representation in the latest England squad. There are more encouraging developments, though, with reports suggesting the Red Devils are already progressing towards securing a £44m deal ahead of next summer. The Manchester Evening News examines all of this and more in the latest United news roundup.'Crazy' result could have dismissed AmorimFollowing just two victories from his first six Premier League matches and a shocking Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of Grimsby, Amorim has faced increasing scrutiny this term. Yet Saturday's success against Sunderland lifted the side to 10th and reduced some of that pressure as domestic football pauses for the next two weeks.Nevertheless, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are monitoring the managerial situation closely. This comes after journalist Fabrizio Romano indicated a bad enough loss to top-flight newcomer Sunderland might have proved sufficient to terminate Amorim."What is happening is also that Man United won the game against Sunderland and closed all the speculation, at least for the next few weeks, for Ruben Amorim," Romano said on his official YouTube channel. "So they head into the international break way more relaxed."The new goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, finally started and got a clean sheet – and so a very good start for Lammens and a very good result for Amorim. As I told you guys, Man United were not going to sack Amorim even if Man United were going to lose the game against Sunderland. Even in that case, he was not going to be fired."That was the plan of Man Utd unless completely crazy things happened, like losing, I don't know, 3 or 4 or 5-0. But, for example, losing the game, I don't know, 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, something like that, Amorim was not going to be fired."£44m signing "almost guaranteed" for 2026In the latest chapter of 'United players flourishing away from Old Trafford', Rasmus Hojlund's renaissance has gathered pace at Napoli. The Denmark striker netted the winner in a 2-1 victory over Genoa on Sunday, taking his tally to four goals in six outings since linking up with Antonio Conte's squad on loan.United have already secured a replacement in Sesko, so it would make sense to sell Hojlund next year if the right price is offered. Napoli has first refusal on his signature after agreeing to a £38.2million purchase fee for next summer, having already paid £5.2m for the season-long loan.Romano has speculated the former Atalanta striker's impressive start to the Serie A season is already winning over the decision-makers in Naples. Unless they withdraw from the obligated deal like Chelsea did with Jadon Sancho last summer, it seems the £43.4m deal will indeed go ahead. In his latest YouTube debrief, Romano said: "Apart from the obligation they trigger or not, Napoli want to keep the player. Napoli trust Rasmus Hojlund. Napoli see Hojlund as part of their long-term project, and so it's a loan with a buy option that might become an obligation, but it's seen by all parties involved in this deal as a future permanent transfer almost guaranteed."United icon slams "disgraceful" international recordAside from Marcus Rashford, there isn't a player currently at United who has been called up to the latest England squad. Even then, Rashford is currently impressing on loan at Barcelona and looks unlikely to ever return.United ended a 48-year run when they failed to have a single player named in the October 2024 England squad. And this trend has continued under Amorim, much to the dismay of former United winger and six-time England international Gordon Hill.Reacting to Thomas Tuchel's recent selection, he posted on X: "If what I was told is true, that there is not one Man Utd player in the England squad apart from Rashford who is not [at] Man Utd, it is absolutely disgraceful and tells me that my club's history is disappearing. I hope not."Sesko making life easier for three United starsWayne Rooney, one of United's greatest-ever forwards, certainly knows a thing or two about judging the quality of strikers. So it must have been an honour for Sesko to hear United's all-time top scorer praising him this weekend. It was the Slovenian's quick thinking in front of goal that put the Red Devils two up at home against Sunderland to secure the three points. Responding to Sesko's latest performance, Rooney highlighted three team-mates in particular who are set to benefit from his presence."I think he's a handful, and I think he uses his body well, he challenges for balls," he said on The Wayne Rooney Show. "It makes it easier for [Bryan] Mbeumo, [Matheus] Cunha when he's on, or Mount to make runs in behind him, so I think that's clearly something they've worked on."Obviously getting another goal will help him so the win was massive for all the players and for the manager, and it was much-needed."Following his first Premier League goal in the recent loss at Brentford, Sesko has now found the back of the net in consecutive matches. Supporters will be hoping that the international break doesn't disrupt this momentum. Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.Make sure you don’t miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
